An Original watercolour, speckled wood Butterfly on green leaves
Butterfly on leaves
There are so many beautiful insects. This speckled wood butterfly eats aphid honeydew. This is the sticky sweet substance produced by aphids.
This image was created using a negative painting technique. You start with very light colours and slowly build up the layers till you are mixing very dark ones. In the case I started by sketching out the butterfly and a few leaves. The leaves were a light yellow green. I then drew more leaves but underlapping the light leaves. I painted these slightly darker. I carried on till I had a really dark green. This method creates great depth to what could have been a very flat painting if all the leaves were the same colour.
I hope you like it any questions please ask, always happy to help.
